Marissa & Isaac's Adventures

Castle Crag - Your Crag is Showing

After one more night at the cove Palisades campsite, our journey towards California started off with leftover pizza for breakfast (goals).
We first headed towards the infamous Weed, CA, where Isaac can get a souvenir. Ever since my sister gifted me a shirt that features Sasquatch wearing a “I love Weed” hat, Isaac has been green with envy. Mission accomplished - Isaac nabbed a “spaced out on Weed, CA” shirt with a big alien holding up a peace sign. We then get out of the rundown, 20 min long wait for Subway, one grocery store, overpriced BBQ town as soon as we can. Lunch was homemade sandwiches at a park in the town of Mt. Shasta. Little did we know, we’ve wandered into a hippie festival where the clothing is eccentric, no one is wearing shoes, and “interesting” smells fill the air. Dinner and a show, am I right? We were not dressed for the affair, so we headed out and landed at our desired destination of Castle Crags State Park.
Our first crack at the crags.
These crags (a steep or rugged cliff/rock face according to signage) are quite a beaut!
Featured: campsite meal prep with the world's most flexible knife. Not featured: banana cream pudding dessert.
The next morning, fueled up on expired banana cream pudding (call us creative eaters), we headed up towards the crags to get up close to the renowned Castle Crag Dome.
A pit stop to admire Mt. Shasta.
"Definitely NOT lost" we told ourselves as we scrambled on all fours through the thick foliage.
We were quite satisfied with ourselves as the wrong trail led us to this picturesque view- a happy little mistake! This is the just one of many traveling mistakes that we will make, but worth it for the stories.
THE Castle Crag Dome.
An absolute treat at the top, surrounded by crags. Even more precious after our off-road detour.

One last crag picture - a set of twins with the moon nestled in between.
After making it to the top, we relished in our accomplishment and whipped out a treat.
When we got back to camp, we took our first real shower of the trip. There is nothing more humbling than a campsite shower experience, but a bar of soap and hot water does wonders for the soul. Cleansed of any and all demons, we jumped back in the car, headed to the bay area for our last stop of the road trip.
